Shelley Johnson, Program Associate
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Shelley received her bachelor degree in psychology from Western Washington University. She completed her studies abroad at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, increasing her awareness of the cultural commonalities and similar marine conservation concerns in the South and North Pacific. After returning to the states, she migrated to Southeast Alaska to pursue environmental education and was drawn there by the intimate connection between the mountains and the sea.
Having been with the ocean program for over five years, Shelley has helped it grow significantly beyond its original fisheries specific focus, paralleling the overarching goal of marine conservation- focusing on the ecosystem as a whole. The program is now more robust encompassing shipping safety and oil spill prevention, marine habitat and wildlife protection, watch dog efforts of Outer Continental Shelf exploration and supporting the annual Alaska ocean summer and winter film festivals. She cultivates communications and public outreach amongst conservation groups, local communities and government agencies through out Alaska with the goal of bridging common marine conservation goals.
Stacey Marz, General Counsel
Stacey has been working on fisheries and marine mammal issues for nearly a decade, having received her J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, Eugene, OR, with a Certificate of Completion in Environmental and Natural Resources Law, and serving as Articles Editor, Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation. She received her B.S., in Advertising with high honors, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. She was admitted to the Alaska Bar in 1995.
